AT LDI 2013, we enjoyed a very successful trade show complete with "The Passion of Light" showcase, a series of free educational workshops, a lighting designer appreciation dinner, a very well attended evening cocktail reception, plus we took home the LDI Award for "Best Creative Use of Light". St Vitus Day concert featuring Ceca with Studio Berar Projekt
On the Serbian holiday St Vitus Day, popular Balkan singer Svetlana "Ceca" Raznatovic held a concert in front of an estimated crowd of 150,000 people at Usce. Expectations placed on the organizers of the concert were enormous and they were given the challenge of surpassing everything seen for the celebration thus far so they turned to Authorized Vari-Lite Dealer Studio Berar Projekt who supplied them with a beautiful and powerful lighting rig highlighted by 40 VL3500 Wash FX luminaires.

At Mediatech 2013 in Johannesburg, Philips Entertainment showcased a complete range of luminaires and lighting controls ideal for theatrical productions, concerts and just about any other entertainment application.

VARI-LITE Tech Training with DWR Distribution
Philips Entertainment Technical Trainer Todd Kessler recently returned to DWR Distribution in South Africa to present Warranty and Service Training to customers and in-house staff with a course aimed to better equip users to technically support their Philips Vari-Lite and Philips Selecon luminaires. Said Duncan Reilly, DWR Distribution, “Todd gave our technicians all the tools they need and taught them how to think about how the products will most optimally be used. The quality of our VARI-LITE and PL Series luminaires is very important to us and that’s why so many professional lighting designers and technicians rely on them today.”

Prolight + Sound 2013
At Prolight + Sound 2013 in Frankfurt, Philips Vari-Lite joined together with the Philips Entertainment family to showcase a multitude of new lighting products and technologies which included the VL3015LT Spot luminaire and VLX Wash luminaire individual cell control, along with new PLProfile1 and PLFresnel1 LED luminaires, the new 250 ML control console, and the new Showline SL NITRO 510 LED strobe luminaire making this event one the most talked about tradeshows in recent years.
At USITT 2013 we had a wonderful time with our Philips Entertainment partners, Philips Strand Lighting and Philips Selecon, showcasing all of our latest VARI-LITE luminaires plus the latest developements with the Showline product line while meeting with all our dealers and friends who stopped by at the show.

VL3015LT Shining Bright in the Night
For a quick product demonstration at the Philips Vari-Lite factory, we pulled four VL3015LT Spot luminaires outside, along with a VL3500 Wash FX and a VL3015 Spot. Shining them across the street on our neighbors at Onstage Systems, we got a fantastic look at the power and performance of the VL3015LT Spot with its 42,000 lumens of output and 10:1 zoom optics system. At the Miami Road Show, Philips Vari-Lite made stops at both the South Dade Cultural Center and the Studio at Mizner Park. Partnering with Philips Strand Lighting and Philips Selecon, as well as dealers Barbizon and SEAL, we had a great time showcasing the power and performance of all our VARI-LITE luminaires.
ILC gives back to Behind The Scenes
At the Hilton Indian Lakes Resort, Intelligent Lighting Creations (ILC) hosted a charity golf event benefiting Behind The Scenes which provides financial support to entertainment technology industry professionals when they are ill or injured. Philips Vari-Lite was proud to be on-hand to help sponsor the event which raised a total of $5,064.70 for the foundation to which Bob Moisan, VP of Sales and Marketing at ILC, commented “ILC is very fortunate to have customers and vendors that were willing to support Behind the Scenes with us. It was a great time for a great cause and we have already started planning for 2013!”
At InfoComm 2012, Philips Vari-Lite provided all the automated luminaires for the ‘Technology for Worship Magazine’ Pavilion and Stage and the show was a complete success. Thank you to all the crew members and technicians who helped put together a great show.
Nashville Road Show
At the Nashville Road Show, Philips Vari-Lite, Philips Strand Lighting and Philips Selecon hosted a day of new product demonstrations at Soundcheck Nashville. Joined by several dealers in the area including Bandit Lites, Stagelight, TLS, 4Wall, LMG, and Morris Light & Sound, the event was a complete success filled with lots of food, fun, and VARI-LITE luminaires.

Kinetic Lighting Open House
At the recent Kinetic Lighting Open House, the 4th annual event, held in Glendale, CA was a rousing success. Filled with panel discussions, training sessions, and raffles, David Rosen commented "By any measured variable, our 2012 open house was the best yet. Turnout was the highest we’ve had. Attendees’ response was the most spirited we’ve heard. The setup looked incredible. And while many of our clients and friends attended, there were a lot of new faces present, too." One of those new faces was the VL880 Spot luminaire which was displayed along with the VL3500 Spot, VL3500 Wash, and VL3000 Spot luminaires. Added Rosen, "All the VARI*LITE fixtures received a great response, especially the VL880 Spot.

2012 North & South American Dealer Summit
At the 2012 North & South American Dealer Summit, we had a great time with all our dealers in attendance. During the Summit, we conducted open discussions and new product demonstrations that featured the VL440 Spot, VL770 Spot, VL880 Spot, VLX3 Wash, plus our new 1500W fixtures in the VL3015, VL3515, and VL3015LT Spot luminaires. Thank you very much to Steve Woods and his production team at SMU for allowing us to host the Dealer Summit at the Owen Arts Center and for all their assistance during load-in and tech. At the conclusion of the day, we hosted a relaxing, evening dinner at the historic Filter House on the shores of White Rock Lake full of good 'ol Texas BBQ.
Pan Tilt and the VL880 Spot Luminaire
Working with DWR Distribution, rental company Pan Tilt has taken ownership of 12 VL880 Spot luminaires, the first of these fixtures available for rent in Africa. Kurt du Preez, owner of Pan Tilt, admits that while he was a little concerned when he saw the size of the fixtures, this soon changed when he turned them on. “They were so bright and the size of the beam is incredible.” So far, Pan Tilt has used the lights on corporate gigs to wallpaper the venue with gobo designs and rich color, and the fixtures were also used recently for audience lighting as well.

Philips Vari-Lite Technical Trainer Todd Kessler is at it again. This time he visited Morris Light & Sound in Murfreesboro, TN, to train their technicians on the latest VARI*LITE luminaires.
IQ Unlimited Seminar
IQ Unlimited recently hosted a two-day seminar close to Zurich where they invited existing and new customers including Swiss rental companies, Theatres and Operas, TV, Cultural Centres and Concert Halls; as well as Designers and Operators. Coral Cooper conducted a technical training and gave hints on the maintenance of all VARI*LITE Luminaires, while Matt Hallard presented the new VL440, VL770 and VL880 Spots to all the guests in attendance.
At the 63rd Annual Southeast Theatre Conference, Philips Vari-Lite was involved in events throughout the entire 4-day run. The opening event of the conference was the Tech Mixer hosted by our very own Thommy Hall and Max Wilson from Tomcat. Over 500 educators, students, and other guests were in the audience as Thommy and Max gave away over 150 prizes. Other highlights of the week included a keynote speech by lighting designer Ricard Pilbrow, who also judged the lighting design competition. At the awards banquet, pictured below, Philips Vari-Lite provided VL3500 Spot, VLX Wash, VL440 Spot, VL770 Spot, VL880 Spot, and VLX3 Wash luminaires while Philips Strand Lighting provided PL3 Wash luminaires to light the stage. Tom Stanziano, Philips Strand Lighting, programmed and ran the show on the Strand Light Pallette VL control console while Thommy provided and ran audio for the event. Said SETC event organizers "We are so pleased that Philips Vari-Lite not only sponsors our most successful social/networking event, but presents some of the latest technology during the Design/Technical programming and on the exhibit floor. And we would be remiss if we didn’t thank Thommy Hall for helping us produce the most exciting Saturday Night Gala, Banquet and Awards Ceremony in our 63 years."

At USITT 2012 we partnered with with Philips Strand Lighting who was having a little fun with their "Find Your Light" Scavenger Hunt. There was a great turnout for the event and the winner from the first days hunt was Mcleod Benson while Chris Howe wallked away the winner on day two, both with 3 PLCyc Luminaires.

2011 Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas
At the 2011 Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas, Philips Vari-Lite RSM Leo Miller was on-hand for Lighting Technology week to take part in the discussion on intelligent lighting and also to teach the students some of the basics of VARI*LITE luminaires.
EXIT Festival 2011
On July 7-10, 2011, Studio Berar provided the EXIT Festival 2011 and ligthing designer Goran Kravić with 16 VL2000 Spot luminaires for the 4-day festival at the Petrovaradin Fortress in Serbia. Studio Berar Rental Managers Momčilo Berar and Emil Berar were charged with the complete organization of the technical support and production carried out by Studio Berar on the three biggest stages at the festival. Studio Berar is an official VARI*LITE distributor that also provides complete after sales support while working to strengthen the VARI*LITE brand in the Serbian market.
Philips Vari-Lite at Machu Picchu with Red Power Peru
Celebrating 100 years of the re-discovery of Machu Picchu by Yale's Archeologist Hiram Bingham, Red Power Peru supplied LD Gian Franco Di Vitto and event organizers with 40 VL3500 Wash and 20 VL3000 Spot luminaires. The celebration took place on July 7, 2011.
Nebraska Thespian Festival
Philips Vari-Lite RSM Leo Miller sent in some shots of his recent trip to do a workshop on moving lights at the Nebraska Thespian Festival. The Nebraska Thespian Festival is the Flagship of all the Thespian festivals held around the country during the year by the parent organization, EdTA, and this year the workshops were expanded to include a larger program on technology for a 3-day intensive course for advanced students on moving lights and programming. The class was taught by Dana Taylor of Mt. Vernon Sr. High School, and is supported with VARI*LITE luminaires from TMS out of Omaha, Strand demo consoles from Vincent Lighting, and taught by Dana, Leo (pictured below) and others; and was held at the Johnny Carson School for Theatre and Film.
Goin' Coastal with VARI*LITE
At the recent Kenny Chesney's Goin' Coastal Tour stop over at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Dean Dove went down to see the show and check out the load-in. For the arena shows LD Mike Swinfdord uses a total of 32 VL3500 Wash, 64 VL3000 Spots, and 48 VL2500 Spot luminaires. For the stadium package, the tour adds an additional 28 VL3000 Spots overhead and in the wings, then another 20 VL3500 Wash fixtures on the field and stage floor.

Southeast Theatre Conference "Tech Mixer"
RSM Thommy Hall sent in some shots of the Southeast Theatre Conference "Tech Mixer" held Wednesday night, March 2, 2011. This was attended by 500 students, school faculty and manufacturers exhibiting at SETC. The Tech Mixer brings technicians together before the conference starts so that they can network throughout the conference. This year the sponsors were Philips Vari-Lite and Tomcat. The high-energy hour and a half included over 150 prize giveaways by co-hosts Thommy Hall and Max Wilson of Tomcat.
Philips Vari-Lite Gives Back to the West Side Theatre Guild
At their production of "Lyrics 14: The Best Of...", West Side Theatre Guild lighting designer Guy Rhodes worked with Vari-Lite RSM Leo Miller on a donation of VL500A and VL500 80V Wash Luminaires so that the student crew could gain the experience of working with VARI*LITE luminaires.

VARI*LITE inside the Grand OIe Opry
When the Grand Ole Opry was struck by a devastating flood, lighting designer Tyler Bryan was forced to redesign the overwhelming majority of his entire lighting system. When it was time to rebuild, he worked with Bandit Lites to go all VARI*LITE with his automated fixtures including 16 VLX Wash, 17 VL3000 Spot, and 22 VL2500 Spot luminaires.

BlizzCon 2010, Blizzard Entertainment's two-day gaming festival, took place on Friday, October 22nd, at the Anaheim Convention Center. The sold-out show featured game developer discussion panels, top-tier tournament competition, the popular costume and dance contests hosted by Jay Mohr, an epic closing concert starring Tenacious D, and a whole lot of VARI*LITE luminaires supplied by 4Wall Entertainment with lighting design by Arnold Serame.
STAPLES Center Just Got Brighter
The bright spot in the United States for sports and entertainment venues just got a little brighter. Along with a brand new, state-of-the-art Panasonic LIVE 4HD scoreboard, STAPLES Center added a significant inventory of 44 VARI*LITE automated luminaires supplied by Epic Production Technologies.
First Annual LDI Half Marathon and Then Some
Proving that LDI is not all about cocktail receptions and after-hours warehouse parties, a lone group of six took to the streets of Las Vegas early Saturday morning for the First Annual LDI Half Marathon. The dedicated inagural participants included Ben Saltzman, Philip Norfolk, George Masek, Gary Fails, Greg Cohen, and Marian Sandberg.
AT LDI 2010, Vari-Lite was joined by Strand Lighting, Selecon, and Color Kinetics in the Philips booth. 2010 MTV Video Music Awards
On September 12, 2010, the MTV Video Music Awards aired live to a world-wide audience. Behind the lighting was LD Tom Kenny who used 60 VLX Wash, 150 VL3000 Spot, 70 VL3500 Wash FX, 200 VL3500 Wash, 40 VL2500 Spot, and 40 VL500 Arc Wash Luminaires, to bring the show to life. Additional crew members included Set Designer Florian Weider, Gaffers Mike Grimes and Ronnie Skopac, Programmers Mike Appel and Dan Boland, and Techs Jason Livingston and John Ellar.

Walt Disney World Tech Training
Technical Trainer Todd Kessler recently competed a VARI*LITE luminaire training course at Disney World in Orlando, FL. During the 3-day course, Kessler provided the technical team with the latest technical and maintenance information for the VLX Wash, VL3000 Spot, VL3500 Spot, VL2500 Spot and Wash, and the VL500 Wash luminaires which are all being used throughout the theme park.

DWR Makes Massive VARI*LITE Sale
Philips Vari-Lite South African distributor, DWR Distribution, has delivered the sale of 120 VARI*LITE luminaires to Gearhouse Splitbeam, the theatre lighting division specialist of the Gearhouse South Africa Group of Companies. The deal was co-ordinated by Gearhouse Splitbeam's Alistair Kilbee and DWR's Duncan Riley and is the largest sale of VAR*LITE fixtures to date in South Africa, and also the first purchase of the premium brand by Gearhouse.

USITT Midwest Event at Stevens Point
Vari-Lite RSM Leo Miller spent a weekend at the University of Wisconsin in Stevens Point, about 3 hours north of Milwaukee and the Alma-Matter of Aaron Hubbard from Clearwing. Aaron was invited by the USITT chapter to present on lighting and he asked Leo to present the new VLX Wash luminaire along with VL1000ERS and VL3500 Spot luminaire. According to Leo, the class went great but what made the weekend event better was the superb student production of RENT in which Leo called it "An absolutely top-notch production and in my opinion on par with any professional version of the show I have ever seen." Congratulations to the students for a great performance.

Meet the newest member of the Vari-Lite family. He's five weeks old and eagerly awaiting growing into his first piece of swag! This is young Josh Wiseman, son of Matt and Samantha Wiseman. Matt runs the Vari-Image department at PRGE and has been in the Vari-Lite family quite awhile, and you might remember Samantha as Samantha Dean, who also worked for Vari-Lite. Congratulations to both on their new addition, and let's hope they are getting some much needed sleep.

2009 WFX Tradeshow
At the 2009 WFX Tradeshow, Vari-Lite RSM's Leo Miller and Thommy Hall featured the new VLX Wash luminaire along with the upcoming VL1100CD luminaire. According to Leo, the best part of the show was the clear cover for the VLX Wash which pulled people into the booth.
A visit to Cowboys Stadium with Clearwing
Living in Dallas and watching the gradual resurrection of "Jerry World" in Arlington, I was yet to see the massive stadium in person, but all that changed thanks to Daniel Gourley, Clearwing, who invited myself, Anita Edwards, and Vari-Lite RSM Leo Miller for a little site visit of the Clearwing installation at the Miller Lite Plaza featuring the VL3500 Wash luminaire. After we checked out the plaza, Daniel then took us on a quick tour of the lighting control room. And after all was said and done, I just got one thing to say..."That's one big building!"

2009 Minnesota Fringe Festival
At the 2009 Minnesota Fringe Festival, Mike Watson lead a series of IATSE workshops including a series on VARI*LITE automated luminaires. With lighting gear supplied by Gopher Stage Lighting, the Minnesota Fringe is the the third oldest Fringe in the United States, and this years festival was the largest in the events history breaking all previous atttendance records.

According to Miller, Fenton loves them! Also while backstage, Miller took a moment to capture some quick snapshots of Lighting Crew Chief Pete Franks and Co-Lighting Designer Aaron Stinebrink who made his backstage experience possible, and then he found some old Showco gear still out on tour with Willie.

On September 10, 2009, Marti Cabra and his team of technicians created a new backdrop for the La nit 10 on TV 3 in Barcelona. With gear provided by EML Sound and Light Productions, the team created a fantastic wall of nothing but VL5 Wash Luminaires complemented by the VL3000 Spot luminaire.
VLX Wash Presentation at HKAPA
On August 21, 2009, Vari-Lite Director of Engineering John Adams and Regional Sales Manager Jimmy Chai presented the latest in LED luminaire technology, the VLX Wash luminaire, to more than 30 guests at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. Many were impressed with the intensity of colors of the VLX as compared with the a conventional lighting fixture and the ability of the VLX Wash luminaire to match the color temperature of the conventional light source. Mak Fai, Lecturer from HKAPA, commented on the event "Thank you very much for offering the seminar to the students and local professionals at the Academy. Everyone is very excited about the new fixture. The VLX Wash luminaire is a truly different lighting fixture. It is bright and its variable color temperature are good tools for stage lighting."
Clearwing Phoenix Grand Opening Celebration
On August 12, 2009, Clearwing Productions celebrated the Grand Opening of their new Phoenix shop located at 5640 South 40th Street, Suite 1. At the event, they invited several of their closest friends and colleagues while showcasing the VL2500 Spot, VL2500 Wash, VL500D Wash, and the new VLX Wash luminaire.
StageCraft institute of Las Vegas 2009
In July 2009, Vari-Lite RSM Leonard Miller completed his third year of teaching and sponsorship of the StageCraft Institute of Las Vegas. This year they had over 30 students for the moving light week in which Leo taught color-mixing and lamp technology theory as well as the basic care of moving lights while also giving the class a hands-on experience with the entire line of VARI*LITE automated fixtures in both a technical and artistic manner. Opening Night Gala with a lot of VARI*LITE luminaires
On May 24, 2009, the Mardan Palace in Antalya, Turkey, opened its doors for the first time with a two-day gala event featuring a multimedia showcase and live performances from world-renowned artists Seal, Mariah Carey and Tom Jones. At the helm for the event was lighting designer Jon Aasen of Desk Black Out and assistant lighting designer Theo Cox of TCLD who used 22 VL 2500 Spot, 22 VL2500 Wash, 20 VL3000 Spot, 18 VL3500 Spot, and a whopping 44 VL3500 Wash luminaires all provided by PROCON Belgium.
Kid Rock & Lynyrd Skynyrd on the 4th of July
While planning to relax over the 4th of July holidays, Vari-Lite RSM Leo Miller was called to action for the Kid Rock and Lynyrd Skynyrd tour stop at the Capitol Federal Park at Sandstone in Bonner Springs, KS. Take a look at the interesting method used for cradling the VL3000 Spot in the Hud Truss. With no lifts on site, all point rigging was done off scaffold. Now that's some dedication on the 4th of July.
Vari-Lite Training at Interlochen
Vari-Lite RSM Leonard Miller did his annual training at Interlochen for the third year in a row. With Leo was Scott Church of Selecon/Strand and Drew Franklin from Vincent Lighting. In addition to light lab classes for the campers/students, Leo also did a master class one night for anyone on staff or faculty. The truss and distro for the event was supplied courtesy of Lightsource in Detroit and the Strand console and LED fixtures were from Vincent Lighting.
Two Big Dog Daddy's
In an attempt to one-up his fellow RSM Leonard Miller, Vari-Lite's resident Big Dog RSM Thommy Hall met up with the real "Big Dog Daddy" Toby Keith in Jacksonville, FL, during his tour. Rock on the Range
While visiting Bryan Hartley and Motley Crue, Vari-Lite's Leonard Miller was surprised by the backstage appearance of Kat Von D who was there to support the band. In the photo with Kat are Leo's cousin and his wife, Tom and Jodi Schwartz of Columbus, OH. Little did they know they would all be making Vari-Lite fame.
2009 Red White and Boom
In Kansas City, hometown sensation David Cook headlined the 2009 Red White and Boom celebration with Seth Jackson as production designer and Bryan Jenkins as programmer and operator. In attendance was Vari-Lite's own Leonard Miller and Leo even got the newest American Idol to pose for a moment with a lilttle Vari-Lite SWAG. Nice work Leo, it looks like we may have a new VARI*LITE fan on our side.
No Doubt at the Superpages.com Center
As No Doubt joined forces once again to tour the nation, they stopped off at the Superpages.com Center in Dallas and invited Vari-Lite out to take a look. Lighting programmer Jesse Blevins, he gave us a little sneak peek at a new version of truss spot up high in the rig. Yep, you guessed it, that's six VL3000 Spot luminaires with pan/tilt disabled serving at the key spotlights for the band. Add in the 20 VL3500 Wash luminaires hanging at the front of the rig, and this is a great showcase for the power and versatility of VARI*LITE automated luminaires all supplied by Epic.

When the Britney Spears "Circus" tour rolled through the AAC on April 1, 2009, it was no April Fool's joke that this was a massive VARI*LITE tour. With 240 VARI*LITE automated luminaires in the rig, we were given the all-access backstage tour by the fantastic lighting crew from Solotech and lighting designer Nick Whitehouse. A special thanks to Alexandre Lefrancois and Mathieu Lavallee for their warm welcome and the new Solotech SWAG. Oh, and by the way, props to Nick Whitehouse for a fantastic lighting design.

Venezuela Lighting Production Services holds Vari-Lite Open House
On August 29th, 2007, Venezuela Lighting Production Services (VLPS) held a Vari-Lite open house for their clients and potiential customers. VLPS set up staged areas to show and demo Vari-Lite fixtures for touring, television and special events. The ambiance and demo areas were lit with 24 VL3500 wash, 36 VL3000 Spots, 12 VL2500 Spots and 12 VL2500 wash luminaires. Vari-Lite recently attended Tour Tech East's 7th Annual All Access 2008 Conference and Tradeshow in Dartmouth Nova Scotia. After over 20 years in rock-roll Mana still knows how to put on a show
At the American Airlines Center, the multi-platinum record-selling group Mana opened up to Vari-Lite for an all-access backstage tour. Led by Vari-Lite RSM Jaime Friedstadt, we got to see the complete rig and what we saw was a whole lot of VARI*LITE automated luminaires. You might also say, they were the only automated luminaires that anyone saw.
Marilyn Manson and Slayer team up for tour
Marilyn Manson and Slayer recently came through the Nokia Theatre, and with them were long-time friends and lighting designers Jason Cain and Sonny Satterfield. Jason, who LD's Slayer, uses a lot of "flash and trash" during his designs, while Sonny, who LD's Marilyn Manson, uses a more theatrical element to his design. But both use 26 VL2500 Spot luminaires to complete this high-energy and exciting tour.
Dave Pettingill in New York
On a recent trip to New York City, Dave Pettingill, from Seal Orlando, represented Vari-Lite in front of Lady Liberty herself. If you look close, you will see that Dave is proudly wearing his "VL500 Wash Me" t-shirt while posing in support of world peace.
Vari-Lite invited to view the beginning of a Redneck Revolution
On Tuesday, January 18th, Vari-Lite was invited to an exclusive sneak peak of the final rehearsal for the Gretchen Wilson A Redneck Revoution Tour. Carter Fulghum, tour lighting director, invited Vari-Lite to view the performance of the 64 VL3000 spot luminaires on tour with the high-enegy female country star. The tour kicked off on Wednesday, January 19th at the Nokia Theatre, and will cross the United States until she meets up with friend and fellow country music star Kenny Chesney in March 2006.
Rascal Flatts Rolls Back Into Town
On September 28, 2007, Rascal Flatts rolled back into Dallas, TX, and Lighting Designer Andy Knighton gave us the tour once again. As we strolled around the set-up for the multi-award winning muscial group, we noticed one thing, there sure is a lot of Vari-Lite up there, all supplied by Bandit Lites. And as we witnessed the show that night, we noticed one more thing, Andy sure does know what do with them. But for those photos, you have to go see the show.
Ron Ruehling and Ruehling Associates Inc celebrated the arrival of their new VARI*LITE luminaires. In purchasing the VL3500 Spot and VL3000 Spot luminaires, Ruehling and Asscoiates have become the newest Authorized Rental Associate, located in Minneapolis. MN, to join the Vari-Lite family.
And the Road Show begins
On April 26, 2007, Vari-Lite embarked on a six city road show. As part of the 25th Anniversary Celebration, the Vari-Lite road show highlights the new VL3500™ Wash luminaire, along with the complete line of VARI*LITE® automated luminaires. The road show began in Los Angeles, CA, at the NBC Studios in Burbank, CA, and below are some pictures that may blow you away. Now, imagine what it looked like in person.
An interesting tradeshow design
Vari-Lite Authorized Sales and Rental Dealer EES in Spain developed an interesting tradeshow design for the AFIAL tradeshow in Madrid. With the design below, it is easy to see that the VL500 is simply picture perfect. In attendance at the tradeshow was (right to left) Luis Pedro Oliveira, Mohamed Essabar, Leire Olascoaga, Jaime Friedstadt, Alia Ayoubi, Nacho Acha-Orbea, and Stivy.
A backstage moment with La Oreja de Van Gogh
Jaime is at it again. While on their wolrd tour, La Oreja de Van Gogh band members Pablo Benegas (Guitar), Alvaro Fuentes (Bass), Xabi San Martin (keyboards), Haritz Garde (Drums), and Amaia Montero (vocals) took a few moments to pose backstage with the infamous Jaime Friedstadt, a long-time fan. La Oreja de Van Gogh is currently embarked on tour with 30 VL3000 Spot luminaires from Vari-Lite Authorized Rental Dealer EML Sound & Light Productions in Spain.
A Wildflower blows through town
As Sheryl Crow restartes her Wildflower tour, LD Arlo Guthire is right by her side. When the sultry tour came through the Nokia Theatre in Grand Prairie, Geore Masek and I stopped in to see what Arlo had up his sleeve. Little did we know it was a VL3000 spot fixture operating as a truss follow spot. By disconnecting the Pan/Tilt, Arlo was able to create a high powered spotlight where he was able to control the remaining attributes straight from the console.
A visit with Andy Knighton and Rascal Flatts
It was a hot 100-degree at the Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas, but that didn't stop LD Andy Knighton and his crew of the Me & My Gang tour. Vari-Lite recently met up with this high energy tour for a backstage look see. Andy took a moment to pose for the camera. The stars at night aren't the only things big and bright deep in the heart of Texas.

Vari-Lite Regional Sales Manager Jaime Friedstadt recently attended the David Gilmour concert at the Royal Albert Hall on May 30, 2006. While backstage, Jaime took a moment to capture some photos with friends, Mr. & Mrs. Marc Brickman, Mr. & Mrs. Phil Manzanera, and Jose Peregrina, along with getting the best seat in the house to watch the star-studded curtain call. All access at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
New Vari-Lite Authorized Rental and Sales Dealer, LD Systems, invited us down for an all access backstage look at the 2006 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the largest rodeo and livestock show in the world. From the roof of Reliant Stadium, to the arena floor, Vari-Lite was given the grand tour. Special thanks to LD Systems' Rob McKinley, Robert Ausmus, Jim Brace, and John Dickson for their hospitality. And too LeAnn Rimes for a great concert. It was a whirlwind day, but a day well worth it.

Vari-Lite salutes a classic lighting design at LDI
At the 2005 ETS-LDI tradeshow in Orlando, Vari-Lite paid homage to one of the great lighting designs in rock-n-roll history, the famous Pink Floyd circle. In displaying the unique performance and quality of the VL500 Wash luminaire, the LDI lighting design was conceived and executed by lighting designer Thommy Hall, programmer Robert Bell, and booth electrician Brian Evans.

At the 2005 ETS-LDI tradeshow in Orlando, Vari-Lite hosted an evening reception on Friday, November 11th. The reception was held at the Rosen Centre Hotel and all the friends and family of Vari-Lite were invited to attend. The Long Awaited Debut...the VL500 wash at Plasa
At Plasa 2005 in London, Vari-Lite introduced the long awaited VL500 wash luminaire at PRG Europe's booth. Response to this new line of wash luminaires was overwhelming. The booth was full of customers nearly the entire duration of the show.
VARI*LITE Tech Training in Dallas
Vari-Lite's Todd Kessler (VARI*LITE Technical Training Manager) conducts a VAR*LITE technical training class at the factory in Dallas. Students from all over the world attend this week long event to receive comprehensive technical and maintenance training on the Series 1000, Series 2000, and Series 3000 luminaires. In this patricular class, there are students from the United States, Canada, and Venezuela.

Genlyte Controls, encompassing the VARI*LITE, Entertainment Technology, and Lightolier Controls brands, recently held its annual Summer Bash for its employees. There were games (dunking booth, ping pong, and jousting), contests (of several disciplines - including cooking, singing, and cook's costume decorating), and plenty of good eats. The VL1000 ERS was the workhorse fixture for Medtronic AVE's national sales meeting Dec. 2-5 at the Four Seasons Resort in Las Colinas, Texas, near Dallas. Lighting Designer John Featherstone used 26 of the VL1000 units as company officials made presentations about groundbreaking new products for coronary specialists. Riverview Systems Group of San Jose, Calif., and Island Creative Management of San Francisco provided the Series 1000 products for show producer Delphi. Vari-Lite public relations specialist Jeff Morrison visited with Featherstone prior to the kick-off meeting, but is not shown because someone had to take the photo.

Chris McMeen of VARI*LITE dealer High Output and lighting designer Michael Franks of Michael Franks Enterprises are "on the clock" during the 2004 NFL Draft at Madison Square Garden.
