Dallas - June 2, 2003 - For the first time since the inception of Encoulisse five years ago, Vari-Lite became a proud corporate sponsor at this year's event, April 23-24 at the Palais des Congres de Montreal.
"We chose to exhibit in an large conference room where guests could relax and learn about our products in an intimate environment without distraction," said Vari-Lite Canadian Sales Manager John Bilyk. "This was more than a simple product demonstration, this was all about a study in Vari-Lite optics."
Horizon Product Manager Robert Bell and Bilyk scripted about 140 cues for the VARI*LITE® luminaires, which Bell programmed on a laptop running Horizon™ software. He and Bilyk then worked "on the fly" for an interactive demonstration of automated lighting and control
"The presentation was fabulous," Bilyk said. "Rob followed my fixture presentations with his 'GO' button. Sometimes I would stop to answer a question, or want to recall a cue or sequence to reinforce a concept, or go live and manipulate a single attribute either alone or in conjunction with others. This allowed visitors to fully understand what they were seeing happen and grasp the dynamics of our fixtures. Presenting it live this way was so much fun and worked very well because Rob and I were intuitively in sync and the hardware followed us."
Additionally, the new Marquee™ 24/48 Console from Entertainment Technology made its Canadian debut at Encoulisse. The Marquee, which is powered by Horizon software, is the first offering of a new series of consoles from Entertainment Technology. Bell provided guests hands-on tutorials on the Horizon PC and the new Marquee console.
Throughout the many daily presentations, customers and visitors learned from Bell's real-world programming expertise and gained insight into advanced fixture technique for theatrical and broadcast application. Visitors include a diverse group of architects, engineers and consultants.
"Encoulisse 2003 was a great success and provided a valuable platform for us to reach out to the Quebec market," Bilyk said. "Solotech was a gracious host to all who participated. Special thanks need to go out to Encoulisse show coordinator Chantal Daoust and technical director Denis Delisle for their superb work."
