Vari-Lite helped bring the energy to the 13th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, which was screened live to 10 million homes worldwide.
Lighting director Carlos Colina was tasked with creating a dynamic design to complement the numerous artists performing at the 12,000-seat arena. He turned to SHOWLINE SL BAR 640 LUMINAIRES. “I was really impressed with the colors delivered by the SL BAR 640 units, which were absolutely amazing and read true on camera,” says Colina.
The show’s lighting programmer, Felix Peralta, was equally impressed: “The SL BAR 640 luminaires gave us a unique look. They were super-fast and bright, and looked fantastic on camera.”
In a lighting design with 498 lighting fixtures, Colina says the SL BAR 640 luminaires had no problem standing out. “They were easily the highlight of the performance. They popped in front of all the other LEDs, beams and projections. The producer and I were ecstatic with the end result – the SL BAR 640 luminaires just blew us away.”
The SL BAR 640 had to be rolled in and out, so were mounted on a 10’-high rolling truss in vertical arrays of two to create four LED ‘towers’. In addition to the SL BAR 640 LED luminaires, Colina used other luminaires for the live broadcast, including VL3500 Spot, VL2500 Spot and VL500D Wash luminaires.
