Industry Publications Honor VL1000™ ERS
Tungsten source, silence of "workhorse luminaire" impresses judges

DALLAS - Feb. 4, 2003 - The tungsten source, shutter capabilities and silent operation caught the judges' eyes and helped earn the VARI*LITE® VL1000™ ellipsoidal reflector spotlight a 2002 EDDY Award from Entertainment Design, one of the lighting industry's most respected publications. The award is the second for the groundbreaking luminaire, which was also named 2002 Lighting Product of the Year by the Associated of British Theatre Technicians. The VL1000 ERS is also nominated for Best Lighting Product for the Staging Market by Rental & Staging Systems magazine. Those winners will be named later this year at INFOCOMM.

"Vari-Lite's engineers are the first to make this bright of a luminaire with a tungsten source and still be quiet enough for theatrical uses," said Michael Eddy, technical editor of Entertainment Design. "The VL1000 fixtures have been appearing on more and more Broadway and West End shows, proving that it fits into the theatre and television markets very well."

The flexibility of the luminaires is apparent in the variety of events on which the fixtures have appeared. The automated ellipsoidals have been used extensively in the trade show and corporate event industry, and have appeared on such Broadway productions as "Amour," "La Boheme" and "Bombay Dreams." In addition, some of the industry's top designers have used the fixtures at televised events such as the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show and MTV Fashionably Loud. The fixtures have also appeared on tour with some of the hottest acts going, including Shakira and No Doubt. Several of the world's top venues, such as Roy Thomson Hall, the Tropicana Resort & Casino, Georgia World Congress Center and Minneapolis Convention Center have all installed automated lighting systems featuring the VL1000 luminaires, as have numerous houses of worship.

"The VL1000 is seen as a workhorse luminaire, and the tungsten source, shutters and quiet operation make it a must for theater, industrials and television applications," Eddy said.
