The multi-functional Vari-Lite VL4000 BEAMWASH will bring a stunning new dimension to the next leg of the ‘Purpose’ tour, due to hit stadia in Australia, New Zealand and South America.
In 2016 the globetrotting Purpose tour visited 116 international arenas. The lighting design – created by Cory FitzGerald, who’s worked with Beyoncé and Bruno Mars – featured a constantly morphing canopy of light in varying ‘pop’ colors, featuring beat-perfect dynamic effects that work in sync with striking video content.
The design will be reworked for 2017, when the tour plays at outdoor venues, and the VL4000 BEAMWASH luminaire will again play a key role: “There’s not anything else out there that’s a good substitute for all the roles it performs in the show,” says lighting director Nick van Nostrand, who’s in charge of realizing FitzGerald’s design.
“The VL4000 is so powerful it can break through the different bright, video-heavy moments during the set. We’ve got lots of wide gobo looks in this show, with a number of them pointing straight out. Even at full width they still punch through the video wall and stage washes and give us some very dramatic looks.”
